STUDENT DESIGN CHARRETTE

(Invite only)

Assigned teams work together to solve a provided design prompt in only 4 hours! Teams are asked to provide various deliverables for the judges to review. Winners are announced after the Keynote on Thursday.

Participation in this design competition is by invitation only for students of active IIDA Campus Centers. Invitations will be sent to IIDA Campus Centers in December so make sure your campus is registered and active before the end of 2024. Campus Center Sponsors (usually a member of the faculty) may nominate up to four (4) of their students to participate and represent the Campus Center. Space in the competition is limited to the first 20 campus centers that respond.

We want to see how excited your school is for SHIFT! Wear your school colors and join us for the new Kick-Off Social. This will be an opportunity to network directly with Interior Design professionals while enjoying a fun, interactive Happy Hour.

Grab a snack and drink then get ready to mix and mingle with industry professionals and other students! This year’s Social Hour will be hosted at The Renaissance Hotel Dallas Rooftop.

Let’s get SHIFT started! Expectations for the conference will be presented. In addition, we’ll explore what students can expect as they start to attend interviews and begin their first jobs.

GET READY TO EXPLORE

You’ll be able to experience top design firms, beautiful completed interiors projects, and amazing products in showrooms. The tours are a unique opportunity for attendees to meet industry professionals in their element.

Each student will explore 3 areas of interest: typically, a design firm, a recently completed or in-progress project, and a showroom. Students are randomly assigned to one of eight tour groups, each making the three tour stops.

8 groups.  24 stops.  1 unforgettable field trip.

CEUs

ALWAYS SOMETHING TO LEARN

CEUs will be offered for educators and practicing professionals throughout the event.

  • All CEUs are IDCEC approved, and some also have USGBC and/or AIA approval

  • Earn up to 0.7 education units with full conference participation

  • Course offerings include Barrier-Free, HSW, and Sustainability designations

“HANDS-ON” ACTIVITY

These interactive presentations are designed to provide in-depth evaluations of specific topics to help attendees become stronger, more knowledgeable designers.

Students will participate in two workshops.

Educator Forum We’re proud to offer a forum for practicing design professionals and educators to come together and discuss the things that are most important to the future of young interior designers. No students please. 

Campus Center Forum Students in, or interested in, leadership positions with their IIDA Campus Centers are invited to participate in this event. Come share ideas for improving participation, fundraising, and making your campus activities better overall.

Non-Traditional Student Q & A  is a forum where conference attendees will interact with professionals who have made Interior Design their second career. Discussion topics focus around networking, challenges, and influences. During this event, students have a chance to ask professionals questions relating to these topics.

The Industry Expo is a true highlight of the SHIFT experience. You’ll be able to engage through booths with professionals from all industry areas and practices of Interior Design. The 101 Sessions are a collection of presentation and feedback sessions focusing on knowledge every emerging design professional needs. Visit up to 4 sessions, each 40 minutes in length with the various topics running concurrently to allow for smaller, more intimate groups.
